Dr. Ankita Thakkar earned her Ph.D. from the University of Miami, focusing on targeted therapies for triple-negative breast cancer. Her research explored the dual targeting of the androgen and Vitamin D receptors, leading to reduced tumor cell viability and cancer stem cells. She also suggested combining these therapies with traditional chemotherapy. Currently, as a post-doctoral fellow at Burke-Weill Cornell School of Medicine, Dr. Thakkar investigates the role of mitochondrial enzymes in neurodegenerative diseases using pluripotent stem cells.

Her research has covered a broad range of topics including Molecular cloning, RNA extraction and qPCR, Cell proliferation and cytotoxicity assays, oncology, neurodegenerative diseases, Immunohistochemistry etc.

Shuyu Zhang completed his Ph.D. at Fudan University by the age of 28 and pursued postdoctoral research at The University of Oklahoma. His research focuses on the epigenetic processes involved in cancer development, including the functions of miRNA and promoter methylation. He also investigates therapeutic approaches for mitigating radiation-induced damage. Zhang has contributed to the field of cancer research with more than 20 published papers.

He also investigates the treatment for radiation-induced injury.

Dr. Marlene Shehata, a licensed pharmacist in Ontario, holds a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Medicine from the University of Ottawa. She works as a Clinical Pharmacist Consultant and has managed Pharmacy and Clinical Services. Dr. Shehata is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Pharmacology Research and has published over 20 research articles. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the Canadian Hypertension Society, and has received multiple awards, including the 2011 Certificate of Excellence from Hypertension Canada.

Dr. Marlene Shehata research interest include cellular and molecular medicine, genetics of cardiovascular diseases and pharmacology research.

Professor Kefah Mokbel, MS, FRCS, is a leading expert in breast disease, specializing in breast cancer and cosmetic surgery. He is the Lead Breast Surgeon at The London Breast Institute and a Consultant at St. George’s Hospital. He also holds an Honorary Professorship at The Brunel Institute of Cancer Genetics and Pharmacogenomics. After earning his medical degree from the University of London, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and earned a Master of Surgery degree from Imperial College London. He has held prominent roles in breast cancer research and surgery throughout his career.

Professor Mokbel's main clinical interests include the early detection of breast cancer, the fast-track diagnosis of breast lumps, breast cancer surgery including breast reconstruction and sentinel node biopsy, cosmetic breast surgery including breast enlargement, breast reduction and mastopexy (breast lift), breast cancer prevention, family history, breast pain and nipple discharge.

Dr. Alexander Birbrair, a professor in Pathology at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, is a member of the American Heart Association, Society for Neuroscience, and International Society for Stem Cell Research. With over 13 peer-reviewed publications, he has won the 2014 3-Minute Thesis competition at Wake Forest University and received the Glenn/AFAR Scholarship for Biology of Aging research.

Oncology and Pathology.

Dr. Hideki Shimodaira is an Associate Professor in Clinical Oncology at Tohoku University’s Institute of Development, Aging, and Cancer (IDAC). He previously held roles as Senior Assistant Professor at Tohoku University Hospital and Assistant Professor at IDAC. Dr. Shimodaira completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research at UC San Diego and is board-certified by the Japanese Board of Cancer Therapy and the Japanese Society of Human Genetics.

Dr. Aparna Jayachandran, a specialist in cancer biology and EMT, earned her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Giessen, Germany. Her research focused on TGF-beta signaling in EMT and organ fibrosis. She has conducted postdoctoral research at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and is currently at the Gallipoli Medical Research Institute and the University of Queensland, studying EMT, immune evasion, and cancer stem cells in liver cancer.

Tumor biology, Metastasis
